Staying grounded is…

not thinking about my body type, hair, facial features, and/or skin. It’s not complaining about any of these things. Or focusing on what I’m told by others in my circle or society that I am lacking in.

Staying grounded is not relying on my feelings about how I look either. Your feelings about your appearance are a filter that you see yourself through. Keep your feelings (happy, anxious, social, not social) out of the loop. Go with how you feel physically (tired, restful, strong, energetic) which is quite different.

Your feelings can shape your mental state while how you feel is a physical state, which if tended to, can improve your mental state. Mind and body connection, yes?

When you are in your feelings, you do things like compare yourself to others, make impulse decisions, ask, and need others to validate you.

If you ask yourself how you are feeling physically, then it’s more manageable to observe, evaluate, and decide if you’re feeling good or what you need to do to get to that point like rest or exercise, be social or go it alone, do something creative or veg out for a minute.

When you’re not thinking about your appearance, your body becomes what it is: a vehicle for your soul. It’s not what it looks like. It’s what it can do for you while you’re on this amazing journey called life.

Your Soul Needs Equal Time

If beauty is your goal, that’s great, just don’t forget about everything else. We’ve all heard the saying that we are spiritual beings having a physical experience. Your soul needs equal time.

My goal is to do things in my life that bring me satisfaction, pride, a sense of accomplishment, joy, and happiness so when my time comes, I can look back with as little regret as possible.

I may not be pretty in his eyes, but looking through mine I’m enough, I’m worthy, and I am beautiful.

That’s all that matters.

“When you and I choose to believe a lie about ourselves, it’s one of these three lies we believe: I’m helpless. I’m worthless. I’m unlovable.”
