Post #49: Making My Own Rules

In 2017, when I was channel surfing…

I came across the Video Music Awards, the VMA’s if you will. The singer, Pink, was walking up to the stage to accept her award for Video Vanguard of the year. As she reached for the microphone, I waited, expecting a list of those she was thankful for to be recited. Instead, she began to recount a conversation that she and her then 6-year-old daughter had recently had.

In a nutshell Pink’s daughter claimed that she herself was ugly and afraid that she resembled a boy. These declarations made by some classmates from her school.

Understandably upset Pink proceeded to create a Power Point presentation. In it she showed a collection of androgynous music artists that have and do stay true to themselves. After which, Pink shared her own truth.

She shared how she herself had been criticized for her short hair and her perceived lack of femininity. To bring it home she asked her daughter, “do you see me growing out my hair?”

You Are You for a Reason

I have always been a fan of Pink’s music and artistry. I have always found her short hair and strong demeanor inspiring. But, after hearing her story, I was more than inspired.

Other’s opinions of you are irrelevant. It takes more than a little courage to be your true self. It takes belief that you are you for a reason.

So, I decided that when I wake up in the morning, I will take the real me along.

When I am in the presence of physical beauty, I will remind myself that my soul’s beauty must surpass my own preconceived notions of who I believe others think that I should be physically.

Why care about impressing strangers?

And when my husband is looking at me, I will not entertain any negative thoughts of what he might be thinking. I will just let him take it all in, Lol.

If I should fall into a negative vibe, I will not allow my mind to entertain even for a second that I am not good enough. And I will not act as if I’m not pretty, feminine, voluptuous, intelligent, worthy, special enough.

I will try to do things that make me like me.

Enough said.
