Have you ever…

tried to force creativity? I thought that I was in the moment but realized that if I was truly present then inspiration would come much more easily. Wouldn’t it?

Why isn’t anything coming to me as I feel like an empty bowl waiting to be filled?

Which is a good thing in general but not so good if you are trying to think of a new topic for your next post, Lol.

I must be trying too hard.

Soooo, I am going to walk away and see what happens.

The Present Is Everywhere

It’s that time of year, in California, where the weather is simply delicious. The sun is shining, the birds are singing, and it’s way too cold in my house to stay inside.

So, I’m headed outside to wander around my backyard.

First to a patch of grass where I squat down real close to the lawn and quickly spot a roly poly. As soon as I gently separate the blades of grass it immediately rolls up into a tender little ball. I withdraw my fingers and wait until the roly poly unrolls and proceeds on its journey.

This reminds me of when I was a kid laying on my belly, my face almost touching the grass, waiting to spy a whole world of insects who lived like people with houses and fancy clothes having adventures.

Then I listen and hear a black bee that is always trying to confront me because I’m in its backyard. I hear one of those beetles that live in trees that you never see but hear their clicks fan out in the air. The clucking chickens that live a couple of houses away and the responding German Shepherd next door.

I look up into the sky and find one solitary cloud that looks like Pegasus, before it dissipates, and the sky is once again cloudless.

I stand in the center of all this activity, close my eyes, take a few deep breaths, and let the sun warm the back of my neck and my shoulders.

And then I feel love. Love for everything around me, for myself, and for this moment.

Now Let’s Talk About Love

Eckhard Tolle says that real love has no opposite. That if the love you feel has an opposite then it is not love but a strong ego-need that the other person temporarily satisfies (The Power of Now pg. 126)

Just think about this. There is only room for one where you are standing.

Self-love is the prerequisite to loving anything or anyone else.

I’m not saying that when you get there you are required to go around hugging everybody. Or trying to connect with others every chance you get, Lol.

It’s a feeling that you can experience for yourself, by yourself.

But you can’t feel that connection until you are connected to your inner self and understand that everything you need you already possess.

Love is not something to be searched for. Love is an epiphany. A revelation that the love you want, and need, has been within you all along.

Spiritual Beings Having a Physical Experience

I know I’ve mentioned it before but it’s worth repeating. We are spiritual beings having a human experience.

I want to feel, really feel what it’s like to have a physical body while I’m here.

I wouldn’t want to leave here and discover that I took everything my body could do for granted. Or be there and realize that I forgot who I was while I was here.

If you could fly and walk, would you only choose to do one? Of course not. That’s the beauty of us all.

While on this Earth, we are both spiritual and physical.

Awareness Check

There is this homeless man in the town where I live who hangs around a certain shopping center. He and I have lived in this town for twenty years.

He stands at the storefronts, alert and aware, while everyone around him hustles and bustles.

I once tried to give him a bag of food and personal items and he very calmly and politely refused.

This intrigued me. This was no ordinary homeless man. He was articulate, sober, and wasn’t looking for a handout.

I’ve watched him throughout the years, and he always remains the same. I hope someday to learn his story.

Until then I will follow his example by standing in my space knowing that I am a part of this flow of energy interacting only when necessary and with a calm, quiet, peaceful awareness.

“Open your eyes, and you will have plenty of bread.”

Proverbs 20.13
