Most people…

have prepared for today a couple of days, or weeks, ago. Calendars are filled with responsibilities and obligations. Each day reflects what we are expecting and ready for.

If something unexpected happens, and it will, we may get a little frustrated, impatient, and yes, angry.

Sorry, but the world and everyone in it did not agree to abide by your calendar. You know, the one on the refrigerator, the planner in your purse. Or, for modern people, the calendar on your phone.

Be Prepared to Jump

Remember that song, “Hold on loosely, but don’t let go,” by the band 38 Special? It’s about not holding on to someone that you love too tightly. Also, allowing them their freedom while letting them know that you still want to hold on.

In this post it’s referring to your day.

Be one of those balloon guys in a used car parking lot, bobbing and weaving. Swaying and sometimes ducking.

Take a note from him and go with the flow, ride the waves, be prepared to jump. Not that he jumps, but you know what I mean.

Today Is Not Tuesday

How can you know what’s going to happen today if you planned it last week? Today is not Tuesday, it is today. If you must define it, define it loosely because the things you planned may or may not happen or get done.

I prefer to plan my day on the day. Except for appointments. But the way things are going these days medical appointments are like three to five months out. Just thought I’d share that, Lol.

So, clean the house (or one room) write a poem (or one line of a poem) or get take-out just because.

Yes, there are things that must be done. You know what they are. Not everything needs to get done today. Have three calls to make? Make one and continue with your day. Then, if nothing else jumps in the way, make that second call.

If that third call didn’t get done, maybe it can wait until tomorrow. So put it on the calendar for the next day.

This is your life. Take care of your obligations and responsibilities but don’t let those overshadow what it is you want to do.

Put some good stuff on your calendar too.

Purging

When we think of purging, we think of getting rid of unused items in our homes. And that’s great. Clear your space, clear your head.

Let’s also think of purging activities and obligations that we have accepted that overfill our calendars. How can you give your best if you are overextended?

Keep it simple. Don’t say yes when you really want to say no.

Let today, be today.

“Bend like the willow and you can never be uprooted.”
